SWITCHING OFF

As with most jobs these days, being a blogger comes with a multitude of emails which need responding to on an hourly basis. Pictures need to be posted to stay relevant and research consists of pouring over online magazines, checking out style icons and finding outs what new and what’s hot.

So how in this age of technology and constant communication do we switch off?

On my latest trip to Corfu the Wi-Fi was almost as good as it is at home, which I was very thankful for. I was able to stay in touch with my beloved Instagram feed whilst getting a cracking tan. This was a blessing but I realized that the only time that I wasn't connected to the worldwide web was when we took a boat trip to Corfu town.

So despite being 1000s of miles from home, surrounded by beauty, sunshine and palm trees, I didn't find time to stop, take a breath, unwind and soak in the beauty around me as much as I should have done.

I absolutely LOVE being a blogger but everyone needs time out so I had a think about what things truly get my mind off work and compiled a list.

Walking the dog

At the moment I have to borrow my parents dog for this (I will be getting my own in the near future!!!). Taking Meg for a walk gets me out of the house, away from Wi-Fi and my laptop and off my bum! 15 minutes at a good pace gets my heart going and I always feel a darn site better for it when I get home and I usually come back with new ideas.

Reading

I don’t have a kindle. Call me old fashioned but I love the smell (weird I know), texture, weight of books and I love having my own little library. With everything else online or on a screen now I’m clinging onto my hard/paperback books! Once I’m absorbed in a book I forget everything else. I find I have quite a short attention span when it comes to watching movies but when I’m in a good book I don’t want to put it down!

Yoga/spinning

Two completely different forms of exercise but I love them both and they both get me out of my head and off my phone for 30-60 minutes! Yoga is great for flexibility and core and spinning is a fantastic form of cardo and really pushes you to your limits.

What do you do to switch off?

I’d love to hear from you!
