Even the happiest, most self confident woman on earth has days where she wakes up, looks in the mirror and doesn’t like what she see’s. On those days when you are feeling a bit low and your self-esteem needs a boost here are my self tested and tried tips for brightening up your day and your mood. Plus, kicking your confidence up a few gears!
1. Exercise
I’m not talking about trekking to the gym and doing an hour’s slog on a treadmill – boring and most of us just don’t have the time. Do a 10-minute work out at home, theres some great ones on Youtube, go for a 15 minute walk with some upbeat music, get your good feeling endorphins pumping through your veins.
2. Self-tan
Personally I always feel better when I have a tan. My personal favourite is SiennaX, apply with a mitten, leave on for an hour then shower off et voila! I’ve been for a week in the Mediterranean. I always feel like a goddess when my skin is sunkissed.
3. Wash your hair
Sometimes a hot steamy shower is just the trick for clearing your mind (and cleaning your body!). Whilst you're in there, use your favourite smells, for me, cocounut is my absolute favourite scent for body wash. Slather a deep conditioner on your mane, my favourite is the label.m deep conditioning mask from Toni & Guy, I always buy this when I get my hair done at the salon in Didsbury but you can also get it online!
4. Outfit
Put on your favourite dress. The one that makes you feel amazing everytime you put it on, it hangs in the right places and doesn’t cling in the wrong ones! If its too dressy for the day then dress it down with a pair of converse.
5. Makeup tutorial
Try Youtubing makeup tutorials, want to look more like your favourite celeb? Watch a ‘how to’ video on their makeup and get those brushes trying something new. Try a look you’ve not done before. Use your best makeup, play around with colours and have fun!
6. Book a trip to the brow bar
To me, a womans brows speak volumes. Its probably the first thing I notice about a person these days! I love the Benefit brow bar, if youre having a bad day, why not get your brows waxed to perfection, and you can book online now too!! The girls apply makeup after they have finished shaping and you’ll walk away with brows to rival Cara Delivignes.
7. Be the new Nigella Lawson
Get your creative side flowing and get creative in the kitchen. Try out a new recipe or make an old favourite. If you bake a cake, why not take it to work and share eat, people will love the thought and you'll feel great for sharing.
8. Pedicure
Give your feet a treat, I love my Brushworks Foot File for removing rough skin on my feet, particularly in summer when i live in flip-flops (average £4.99). It leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft. On my toes I LOVE my Gloss & Co nail varnishes. They're cruelty and chemical free and last for ages!

9. Sleep
If you're not getting a good nights sleep it can make life very challenging. Having suffered with insomnia on and off over the years I understand the difficulties it can cause. This is why sleep hygiene is so important. Turning down the lights the few hours before bed, having a zen space to sleep in that is clean, turning off your phone/tablet/computer in the hour before bed and reading. Make your bedroom a haven.
These tips all help my to get a good nights beauty sleep!
Remember, everyone is allowed to have low days, surround yourself with positive people and try some of these steps to brighten your mood or confidence on an off day :)
