In this life of celebrities and icons it's easy to forget about our own individuality and style.
Everyone woman has her own unique taste and some we times forget how to embrace this and instead look to others to mimic. I've fallen victim of this myself and when I was younger I just wanted to look like everyone else. Truth is, I'm different, we all are and as soon as I embraced who I was the tables turned and people begun to follow me.
I've always had a love for fashion and beauty, but as an adult I've discovered what really suits me and what makes me feel good. I don't fall prey to fashion just because it's the latest trend. I pick out what I like and work it into my life if I choose to. For example, the recent 70s flares trend I didn't like, it just wasn't me, I just prefer my jeans skinny!
Sometimes I struggle when people imitate me, my dad always says that it is the highest form of flattery. I like to inspire people, and give them tips that I have learned along the way but I don’t want to look the same as everyone around me. I think the same goes for most walks of life. Everyone has different tastes, opinions and interests and if we all did the same then things would be very dull.
Figuring out your own style can be challenging. I think the main thing to do is try different things, different styles and looks, see what you enjoy wearing and how it makes you feel. Find a signature piece whether it’s a bag, a necklace or a pair of boots and work your wardrobe around it. This piece I would spend a little more on. For example, my Michael Kors tote bag that I bought in New York was expensive, but it has been made well and whereas high street bags would have crumbled under the amount of use it has had, my MK is as sturdy as ever.
Make sure that your wardrobe fits in with your lifestyle. Find pieces that can be dressed up and down. For example a simple T-shirt can be worn with jeans and a cardigan during the day and put with a blazer and a chunky necklace at night.
Remember to dress appropriately for your age. If you’re in your mid-20s plus then dresses really should be knee length, and if you are showing a bit of leg, cover up your top half and vice versa. The most important thing to remember is to wear your wardrobe with confidence. A confident woman is a powerful woman, and when you feel your best, you stand taller, smile wider, and people will notice.
Be true to yourself, be the best version of you and let everyone see your own brand and style.
